Development Ready Communities (DRC)

The Development Ready Communities (DRC) program is designed to dramatically increase coordination on development projects between Wayne County and its local communities. The initiative is scheduled to be launched during 2009. The DRC includes several activities designed to make a community more efficient in developing or redeveloping sites. The DRC is a participatory program, and requires that local units of government agree to provide certain resources and access to information to Wayne County.

The Initiative involves commitments made by both the Local Units of Government (LUG) and Wayne County to form a collaborative effort to expedite economic development projects. The program will begin as a pilot project among a few selected communities.

Proposed components of the Initiative include:

  • The establishment of Development Officers within Wayne County that will act as the liaison to the communities to expedite development;
  • Identifying a Third Party Engineer, contracted by Wayne County, that will be available to the communities for projects;
  • The creation of a database of development ready sites;
  • Joint marketing and business attraction campaigns;
  • The establishment of a Wetland Mitigation Bank; and
  • Facilitating the use of the on-line permitting system to increase coordination.

Please check back at this website during the coming months for more information on the Development Ready Communities program.
