Elections Division
The Elections Division of the Wayne County Clerk's Office is responsible for coordinating and administering all federal, state, county and cross-boundary school district elections conducted in Wayne County under the jurisdiction of the Wayne County Clerk.
The Elections Division is also responsible for overseeing the printing and distribution of election ballots and conducting national, state, and county elections. The canvass of votes in state, county, school, and some city and township elections is under the jurisdiction of the Wayne County Clerk.
Lastly, the Elections Division is responsible for monitoring all county, local and school board candidate compliance(s) in accordance with all filing requirements under the Michigan Campaign Finance Act, PA 388 of 1976. This division serves as an administrative officer to the County Election Commission, County Board of Canvassers and the County Apportionment Commission. Wayne County’s Elections Officials are:

The Wayne County Election Commission is composed of the Chief Judge of the Probate Court, the Wayne County Clerk, and the Wayne County Treasurer. The commission members are responsible for the furnishing of ballots and specific election supplies for the statewide August primaries, statewide November general elections and special primaries and elections held to fill vacancies in federal, state and county offices.
Additionally, the commission members are responsible for holding hearings to determine the clarity of the language used on recall petitions.
WAYNE COUNTY BOARD OF CANVASSERS
The Wayne County Board of Canvassers is composed of four members; two Republicans and two Democrats.
These members are appointed by the Wayne County Board of Commissioners for four-year terms. They are responsible for canvassing the votes cast within Wayne County, as well as certifying elections for federal, state, county and school districts that are not wholly contained. These members also conduct recounts for all units of government within Wayne County, MI.
The Board members are also responsible for inspecting the county’s ballot containers every four years.
ELECTIONS DIVISION CAMPAIGN FINANCE UNIT
The Campaign Finance Unit of the Elections Division is responsible for monitoring that all county, local and school board candidates are in compliance with all filing requirements under the Michigan Campaign Finance Act, PA 388 of 1976.
This includes assessing all reports and issuing related fees and fines.
